Education and Career History

Liang Gao received a PhD in Physics at Ludwig-Maxmilians-Universaet Muenchen in 2004, Germany, followed by 2 postdocs at Max Planck institute for Astrophysics and Durham University. In 2008 he was awarded an STFC Advanced fellowship in UK. He returned China in early 2009 and started a research group at National Astronomical Observatories. He is also the group leader of the partner group of Max Planck for Astrophysics. His main research interests lie in the field of Cosmology, the nature of dark matter, galaxy formation and computer simulation of Cosmic structure formation. He was the first to put forward the concept of halo assembly bias and to realize that stars can form directly in Warm dark matter filaments. In the past years, he has co-authored about 60 refereed papers in the refereed scientific literature. These paper have been cited more than 8500 times (H-index 34). Two of them have more than 1000 citations, and 17 have more than 100 citations
